Trying to figure out Live Rosin and it’s perks?
Live Rosin is a type of cannabis concentrate that is made using fresh, live cannabis plants. It is a relatively new form of concentrate that has gained popularity among cannabis enthusiasts in recent years. Here at Suncrafted Cannabis’s Middleboro Dispensary we create this new wonder of cannabis ‘in-house’ and have created one of the most advanced workflows to produce high potency Live Rosin in the industry.
The process involves freezing fresh, live cannabis plants and then mechanically separating the trichomes (the part of the plant that contains the cannabinoids and terpenes) from the plant matter. This process is known as “ice water extraction.” The resulting concentrate is a golden, translucent, and highly potent form of cannabis. This makes it a popular choice for people who are looking for a strong, full-spectrum cannabis experience.
One of the main benefits of Live Rosin is that it is made using fresh, live plants, which means it contains a vastly higher concentration of terpenes (the compounds responsible for the plant’s unique aroma and flavor) than other types of concentrates. Terpenes are aromatic oils that give cannabis its distinctive scent and flavor, and they play a role in the therapeutic effects of cannabis. Live rosin is able to capture a higher concentration of terpenes compared to other types of concentrates, which can enhance the overall experience of consuming it.
Live Rosin is also found to be a more pure form of concentrate, as it does not involve the use of solvents like butane or propane, which can leave trace contaminants in the final product. This makes Live Rosin a potentially safer and healthier option for those looking to consume cannabis concentrates.
Live Rosin can be consumed in a variety of ways, including dabbing (heating the concentrate and inhaling the vapor through a dab rig), vaporizing (using a vaporizer designed for concentrates), or adding it to a joint or bowl. Due to its high potency, it is important to start with a small dose and gradually increase as needed. Keeping a journal of your intake is always a good idea.
How Suncrafted Cannabis produces Live Rosin
We isolate the prime range of ripe trichomes during our solvent-less extraction process which can vary from strain to strain. Stacked in ascending order (45u,90u,160u,190u) we are able to filter which ever range of resin we desire. Some strains produce a larger resin gland that can be anywhere from 90 micron in size to over 140 micron which is why we isolate certain resin in the 90u-159u range including any resin above the 90 micron and below the 160 micron range. The final product being 90u-159u Tier#1 Live Rosin.
When we isolate a specific range of resin from the 90 micron range, we only do so in the first two washes- the final washes include the 90u within the 45u bag. Once the wash is complete we mix all of the 45u collected throughout the process including the 45u-89u collected on the first two washes and the 45u-159u collected on the final washes. We then press that into our Tier 2 Rosin which would be labeled as 45u-159u Tier#2 Rosin.
Live Rosin vs Dry Cured Rosin:
There are two forms of input for solvent-less extraction: “Live” and “Dry Cured” material. “Live” material refers to cannabis that has been harvested and immediately frozen while the plant is still alive, resulting in an end product called Live Rosin. “Dry Cured” material, on the other hand, refers to cannabis that has been dried and cured like regular smokeable flower, but is then transformed into an extract called Dry Cured Rosin. The flavor profile of Dry Cured Rosin is similar to traditional hash, while Live Rosin has a profile that resembles the way the plant looked and smelled while it was still growing.
Live Rosin vs Live Resin
With all the different types of extracts on the market, differentiating between one and other can be very confusing. Two types of extracts that often get confused by the name are Live Resin and Live Rosin.
Both are a ‘Live’ product meaning the input material used was fresh-frozen during the harvest process, but forms of extraction are completely different.
Live Resin uses a blend solvents such as butane or pentane to extract the oil from the material under pressure and then must go through multiple steps of refinement before it is ready to be consumed. This extraction process captures every drop of oil from the material which is then refined through different filtration medias as much as needed for the end product and then must remove any remaining gasses before it is ready to be consumed.
Live Rosin is a solvent-less process that only involves ice, water, heat, and pressure to create a product that is ready to be consumed right away. Live Rosin is the process of extracting only the resin from the plant and refining it to a pure oil with filtration utilizing heat and pressure.
Micron (the ‘u’ in 90u): referring to the size pore in the wash bags in which the trichome heads fall in.
Ice Water Hash: the process of extracting resin from cannabis using ice, water, and agitation to remove the trichome heads from the plant
Live Rosin: solvent-less hash oil made from fresh
Dry-Cured Rosin: solvent-less hash oil made from dry cured material.
Live Resin: cannabis extract made from fresh frozen material and extracted utilizing a form of hydrocarbon gas such as butane or pentane.
We hope this helped answered some Live Rosin questions…
